The ASPCA is celebrating Adopt a Shelter Dog month in October.  They have a contest for photos and ask you to "Take a step back from your usual caretaking role for a day, and just observe. Catch your dog in the act of being...your dog."  They have a link to a photographer Traer Scott who gives 7 tips on how to take the perfect picture of your dog as well.  So check it out and maybe your lovable pooch will be a winner (I know he/she is a winner in your eyes all the time).
