Is Your Pet In A Rut?

I tend to be the type of person who develops ruts over a period of time and can’t seem to shake them for months on end. I go to lunch everyday at 1:00, always wear khakis on Monday’s and Wednesdays, and lately I seem to be alternating between Corn Flakes and Cheerios every morning for breakfast. Like people pets can find themselves in a rut as well. We once had a cat that insisted on taking a shower everyday no matter who was currently occupying the bathroom. We’ve all experienced coming home to find Fido sitting at the door waiting to greet us after a long day at the office. When it comes to food though should our pets be eating the same thing everyday or are we causing them harm by not offering up alternatives occasionally?

According to the makers of Tolldens Farm brand pet foods, by mixing in different types of foods we are in fact giving our pets many vital nutrients that their bodies might not be getting from they normal food. “If your dog likes chewing on “recreational” bones (and most dogs do), substitute chicken (neck/mince) for muscle meat and let them get their bone content from the recreational bone. A recreational bone would be a beef, lamb pork, or any other large mammal bone. Along with regular exercise, recreational chewing will round out a well-balanced, healthy dog’s life. If you have access to fresh/frozen fish, you can include that in the diet. Variety will help ensure your pet is getting all the nutrients it needs to live a long and healthy life.” So remember don't be afraid to mix things up every once in a while and let your pet try something new for a change. Trust me they'll thank you for it.
