Helping Kitty Reclaim It's Appetite

You can’t blame it for not wanting too. You know what it’s like to not feel good and just want to lay around all day not moving. That being said it’s extremely important to make sure your cat is eating while recovering from illness. Without a healthy diet, your cat stands a lesser chance of recovering as quickly compared to those that are able to be switched to a diet filled with the proper amounts of nutrients. Here a few simple ways to get that kitty back on its feet and playing with that ball of yarn again:

  • Try over powering it with some strong smelling food. Mix things up a bit by offering something it’s not used to eating.
  • Tuna water may just be what kitty wants most. Remember to start out slow and eventually over a period of hours add bits of the meat until she is begging for more
  • Pop that kitty chow in the microwave. By heating foods you are causing it to release it’s odors and hopefully make kitty come running
  • Don’t depend on kitty doing things itself. Baby your baby by hand feeding it with a spoon.
  • According to Dr. Lisa Newman “Add a teaspoon of baby food meat dinner, high quality canned diet, or pureed home-cooked meat. Chicken and turkey are easy animal proteins to start with.” Just remember to make sure whatever you give your cat it’s free of onions

Remember that your pet has just gone through a traumatic experience and that nobody likes to feel bad. With a little TLC and a watchful eye, your cat should be back up and purring in no time. As always though, make sure to contact your local vet if any symptoms should arise that could indicate the illness is getting worse
