I’ve been writing for this site for a couple of weeks now and the last thing I want is for it to turn into a “dogs and cats only site” so this week I’m going to try to cover some other animals that may not be as common as puppy and kitty, but still are very popular pets. Today we are going to talk guinea pigs!!!
Often confused with hamsters (hamsters are smaller, sleep during the day, can’t having anything containing citrus, and crawl in tubes), guinea pigs are typically 3lbs heavier and tend to get more attached to their owners than you might think. Unlike the hamster, a guinea pig doesn’t spend it’s day taking long runs on a wheel going nowhere. Instead guinea pigs tend to be much slower and need to be taken out of their cage on a regular basis for some much needed exercise. Don’t be afraid to take your guinea pig out of its cage and explore your home a bit. Keep a close eye on it of course and make sure it isn’t allowed to roam around any exposed electrical cord or cables otherwise it will chew right threw them. Oh and be prepared for the pellets it will leave behind. If you’re brave enough take your guinea outside for a bit, but watch out for other animals and try to keep it calm. Remember you aren’t dealing with a dog or a cat, so it’s best to try to keep your guinea pig as stress free as possible in order to avoid any potential health issues.
