Keeping Kitty Cool This Summer

As the owner of an eight year-old longhaired cat part of my weekly routine involves vacuuming up all the hair off the furniture and along the baseboards in addition to combing him in hopes of reducing my workload. Now that summer is in full-blown 100-degree mode, keeping kitty cool is a major concern. The water dish is filled everyday, the air is set to come on once the thermostat reaches 73 degrees, and just recently I learned the benefits of giving him a summertime buzz cut. If you have a long haired pet The Lion Cut just may be the key to keeping it healthy during the sizzling temps of the current season.

The lion cut is named for the way it leaves the animals body shaved while keeping the hair around the head, feet, and tail longer. The result is an animal that is cooler and easier to groom. In addition to this lion cuts drastically cut back on the number of hairballs a cat may experience with long hair and is especially helpful for older animals that begin have a difficult time grooming themselves. While technically if you are brave enough it’s possible to give your pet this hairdo at home, it is strongly recommend that you leave this us to the experts. After the cut has been given, don’t be surprised to find your kitty filled with a new spirit and love of life. As traumatic as it is on your cat to be shaved and as surprising it is once you see it for the first time with the new do, many have reported a drastic turn around in they way they animals act afterwards. So the next time you take kitty in for their check up, look into having a lion cut done. They’ll thank you for it later.
