We all know the numbers. Our shelters and pet adoption agencies are over flowing all over the country. Everyday thousands of pets either run off on their own or are abandoned by families that can no longer afford to take care of them. All it takes is one stop by the corner Quik Mart to notice the alarming number of pet owners who are doing everything they can think of to find their cherished friends. Signs that read “If found please call…..” or “Lost! White Persian cat goes by the name of Fluffy please call….”
There isn’t an easy way to find a lost pet other than hard work and lots of luck. Sure alternatives such as microchips that can be implanted under the animals skin and electric collars that send out a shock if the pet goes too far outside of it’s boundaries exist. However the problem with these methods for finding Fluffy are many. In the case of a chip only those equipped with a scan gun can read the info it contains and nobody wants to have to resort to shocking their pet in order for them to behave.
Here’s a quick tip though that just may be your best bet to finding your pet as quickly as possible. Simply include your cell phone number on the animals collar. By adding this piece of info your are giving whomever finds the pet a quick and easy way to return it home. We all know what can happen to an animal that is left at the pound for a long period of time. By simply making it easier to contact you, getting Fluffy back to where she belongs turns into a matter of minutes instead of days.
The next time your pet runs out the door, rest easy knowing that if it does get away you will stand a better chance of getting it back thanks to the simple inclusion of a cell number on it’s collar.
