Welcome To Snores-ville

It’s the middle of the night and the house is quiet as a mouse, except for some type of unrecognizable noise coming from the other room. You slip on your robe and tip toe down the hall trying to find the source of the rhythmic sound that has woken you up. Is it a prowler? An appliance malfunctioning? Maybe a branch from a nearby tree brushing across a window? Then you discover the source curled up in a ball in his favorite spot next to the heating vent….your pet has a snoring problem and now it’s to the point where it’s waking you up.

Snoring in pets isn’t always something to be concerned about, however if it does get to the point where you start to notice changes in their behavior brought on by lack of sleep you may need to schedule a trip to the vet’s office. The cause of snoring problems can range from any number of reasons, but more times than not it’s due to something inside your pets nose that is obstructing it’s breathing. Then again it could be a sign that your pet has developed allergies.

If your pet does start snoring almost overnight, you may want to review your daily routine over the past few days or weeks and try to pin point any changes you have made. A different type of washing detergent, a new blanket, a window being left open so that the aroma of the flowers blooming is allowed to flood your home; anyone of these or possibly something else could be the cause your pet’s snoring.

While allergies may be the key to the snoring problem, you may also want to consider your pets weight as a possible cause. Just like in people, all that extra weight hampers a pet’s ability to breathe and requires more effort to take in air. It’s possible that with a good exercise regiment and a healthier diet that within weeks your animal as well as yourself will be back to sleeping like babies once again.
