When Buying From A Breeder, Information Is Key

You’re ready to get a new pet and for various reasons you’ve decided on a specific breed of pet that just isn’t available at a local shelter. No what you have in mind is a pure breed. A pet that has been bred to be of a certain type and comes with an outrageous price tag. The last thing you want, the last thing any of us wants is to be taken advantage of and so you are a little hesitant to pay so much when you’re not 100% sure as to if what questions to ask the breeder.

According to the folks over at Pet People Place, it’s a good idea to meet with the owner of the pup and to not be afraid to ask as many questions as you deem necessary.

How much is the animal?

Do you have their parent’s medical history?

What’s their personality like? Do they get along with others?

What are the Pro’s and Con’s of the animal you are about to purchase?

Can you take a look at the pedigrees of both parents

What does the puppy eat?

What type of shots has the animal had?

Request a list of references.

Are the breeders prepared for you to take the animal to your vet to be checked out?

With the price of specialty breeds running up into the thousands, the last thing anyone wants to come home with is an animal that is less than healthy. This is why it’s extremely important to ask as many questions in order to ensure you aren’t barking up the wrong tree.
