Is Your Puppy Going Green?

If you are like me, and according to several articles I’ve recently read most of you are, you find yourself going green more and more with each passing week. This of course isn’t a bad thing; in fact I’ve noticed an unexpected sense of accomplishment each time I manage to fill up our recycling bin. One thing I love about this new move to restore the environment is all the creative ways people are finding to completely alter our sense of everyday objects and turn them into something that is good for the planet.

One of the most recent examples of this and again something that has really caught my attention comes from a site called Sustainable Pet. Sustainable Pet has done the unimaginable and completely redesigned the dog house so that it not only transforms the idea of what a dog house is, but becomes part of the environment instead of just part of the backyard. Offering a variety of different designs each doghouse shares one common element with the others in their collection, they all have fully functioning gardens built into the roofs.

Consisting of various plants, dirt, and a simply drainage system, each garden roof is completely waterproof, provides numerous benefits to puppy,  and is good for the world he lives in. The garden roofs give the doghouse a layer of insulation to keep it cool/warm as the seasons change,  provide a source for drinking water (the plants and dirt filter the water which runs down off the roof and through a drainage pipe made wood), and helps to keep the air around your pet clean by filtering dust particles. Homes start out as low as $1000 and if that’s too steep for you but you love the idea, you can also purchase a birdhouse version for only $300. The term in the doghouse is changing and pretty soon we will all wish we lived in one.
