Doggie DNA A Growing Trend

Pet lovers who are afraid of being scammed the next time they go looking for a pure breed and want to make sure they are getting what they pay for, may just want to pay attention to this next story. Straight from the Flushing Medical Hospital located in Flushing Michigan, comes the tale of a new service that is helping pet owners everywhere prove they dogs are the breed they claim to be. Dog DNA, much like human DNA, is being tested to determine the animal’s heritage and what breeds have come together to create the pup in question.

The test is easy, only costs around $120 bucks, and more importantly is absolutely pain free. “We just swab the cheek, put the cells on the little card, mail it in and they'll e-mail you the results in 10 days. A more detailed report will get sent in the mail” says one pet owner who wanted to make sure the $1,100 she paid for a coupld of Maltese pups was worth the money.

When it comes to those in the business of selling the high end puppies that can be worth thousands to pet owners desiring a certain type, a certified DNA test is invaluable. By proving the animal is what it claims to be, the seller is simply adding value to the animal as well as another level of security for those potential buyers who are afraid of being taken for a ride. Plus if the animal is ever stolen and a dispute arises as to whether or not it ever belonged to the person claiming to be it’s righful owner, a simple DNA test compared to the one on file could be all that is needed to close the case.
