New Recall On Pet Toys Takes Affect

It seems like every week we are doing another story about yet another recall that has been issued by another member of the Pet Industry. Less than a month ago we brought you the story of the 100 bags of Pedigree Complete Nutrition Small Crunchy Bites that were recalled after being sold to Alberstons retail stores in Southern California and Las Vegas. For those that may not have heard the news “The bags were mistakenly shipped last week and contain best buy dates of 7/2009. Apparently a batch of the food was inadvertently sent out after testing positive for Salmonella.” Now comes a new recall from a toy company on the other side of the country called Four Paws.

Based out of New York, Four Paws has begun taking back all shipments of their Rough & Rugged Pimple Ball with Bell after a Labrador retriever was hurt while playing with dog toy back in June. In a statement issued by the company “We’re not taking a chance. 50,000 toys are coming back because we want to make sure everything is 100 percent before it hits the market.” It was discovered that a hole in the ball was creating a vacuum effect when bitten into and thus made it all but impossible to be removed without the aid of a trained veterinarian. In fact the retriever which brought on this current recall was forced to have its tongue removed after doctors failed to be able to detach the dog toy.

In an effort to fully reestablish it’s self as a company that hold it’s customers in the highest of regards, Four Paws has stopped all future shipments of the defective toys until the defect is fixed along with sending out a letter to each of their retailers asking the product be removed from their shelves and sent back to them at their own expense.

If you are concerned that you may own one of the defective products in this latest recall, please visit the Four Paws website for a complete list of products affected.
