The Menace That Is Beverly Hills Chihuahua

If you have a small child or are just a fan of movies in general, than you have no doubt seen the previews for Disney’s latest blockbuster in waiting Beverly Hills Chihuahua. The movie centers around a group of talking Chihuahua’s that attempt to rescue a missing pup in of course none other than Beverly Hills. While there’s little debate to the fact that Disney seems to have struck oil yet again, many animal shelters are bracing for what they believe will be an eventual Chihuahua flood once the hype surrounding the movie wears off.

The idea is that as the movie grows in popularity millions of families will leave the theaters just dying to get their hands on a tiny pup of their own. Then several months will pass and after realizing that pets are more of a responsibility than they had at first realized, owners will begin abandoning their pups in record numbers. According Stacy Narcisse of the Get A Life Pet Rescue of South Florida it’s similar to what they experienced after Paris Hilton took a liking to tiny dogs. “Unfortunately, Paris Hilton has single-handedly caused a big problem. And she doesn't even support rescue. She just buys dogs for her friends. A lot of people get chihuahuas and don't know care for them," Narcisse said. "Then the dog doo-doos in the Louis Vuitton handbag and the new owner says, 'No way.’ Another concern is that people will try and capitalize on the success of the film by mass breading Chihuahuas and selling them at huge prices.

Always on top of any potential controversy that could spoil their latest cash cow, Disney has already responded to these concerns by inviting rescue groups across the country to early screenings of the film followed by seminars on just what it takes to care for a Chihuahua and how the movie could be used to increase the adoption of other pets.
