It was only a couple of weeks ago that we brought you the story of the latest recall to affect the pet food industry. As you know Scribble’s N Bit’s is your number one stop for all pet food related recalls as is the case with today’s story that revolves around the recall of thousands of bags of pet food made by Mars Petcare. You may recall the food in question was all made at the Mars Petcare plant in Everson, Pa. and dealt with the possible the contamination of Salmonella. The products that are affected include such brands as “Pedigree, Country Acres, Members Mark, Retriever, Red Flannel, Special Kitty, Doggy Bag, Natural, Ol’ Roy, Paws & Claws, Wegman’s, Pet Pride, and PMI Nutrition.” What makes this particular recall so disturbing is that the very same manufacturing plant linked to this most recent outbreak of Salmonella was also closed so that it could be completely scrubbed down just one year ago!
Well the latest twist to this story comes straight from Mars Petcare and a statement in which they tell those concerned over the food contamination that they are ending all production in their Everson plant. Per Debra Fair a spokeswoman for Mars Petcare “Since we have not yet identified the source of the Salmonella Schwarzengrund at the Everson facility, we do not plan to resume production out of a commitment to the safety of our pet owners and their pets, customers and associates.”
If you are concerned that you may have purchased and possibly effected by the products listed in this most recent recall, please visit the Mars Petcare website for more information. As always the second we learn of further details or news of other pet related recalls, you’ll read about it here at Scribbles N Bits within minutes of the story breaking.
