Bring Your Pet To Work Day

Unfortunately we seem to be a nation that only has time to work and sleep. Let’s face it, most of the time we see our fellow employees more than we ever see our children and it’s a wonder we find time for a social life at all. If you’ve ever worked in an office, than you know what it’s like when somebody pops in to show off their child. Eager to get a break and a taste of the real world, the office quickly comes alive as everyone is introduced to the son or daughter they are constantly being told about by their proud mom or pop. Occasionally a four legged member of an employee’s family will also make an appearance. We all will admit that we tend to treat our pets like children and with that also comes the desire to take it around town and show it off to friends and family. When taking your pet into the work place though, it’s important to take in account several factors that could turn the event into an unfortunate occasion.

When you begin the process of taking your pet to visit the office, stop and think if anyone will have a problem with it. If you’re sure the boss is fine with your pup paying a visit, try to recall if any of your fellow employees have a fear of pets. If so make sure you don’t impose on them by letting your pet get too close. Also be respectful of those that may be allergic to pets and avoid their area. Don’t forget the essentials since more than likely your pet will get excited from all the extra attention and may not be able to control it’s self. Most importantly if at any time your pet becomes nervous or doesn’t feel comfortable with all the people gathering around him, know when to say goodbye.

It’s part of our genetic makeup to want to share our lives with those we spend the majority of our time with, that’s why bringing your pets to work has become a fairly common occurrence. That being said remember to pay attention to people’s reaction to you bringing an animal into the work place and avoid ruining anyone’s day by accident.
