Hartz Recalls Rawhide Chips

Another week another recall, as always Scribbles N Bits wants you to know how much we appreciate our readers as well as all the pets we write about every day. This is why we feel it’s so important to keep you as up to date as possible in terms of the latest pet recalls that could potentially save your pet’s life. Today comes word from Hartz Mountain Corp that they are recalling 4,850 bags of their popular snack treat Chicken Basted Rawhide Chips.

While conducting their typical testing of products, Hartz discovered that one sample of the rawhide chips tested positive for Salmonella. Although no other bags of the product came back positive for Salmonella, Hartz being the responsible company they are felt that it was important to get as many bags of the item which was made in their Brazil facility back as possible. In fact no animals are known at this time to even have been infected by the disease due to contact with the Hartz rawhide chips. Per a spokesman for the company “We are going to look at this thoroughly to find out what could have gone wrong and consult with the manufacturing company. The recall is intended to reassure customers and we are letting people know there is a potential for illness here.”

If you fear you may have purchased this product recently Hartz is telling everyone to “contact Hartz at 1-800-275-1414 with any questions they may have and to obtain reimbursement for purchased product.  The product involved is 4,850 – 2 pound plastic bags of Hartz Chicken-Basted Rawhide Chips, lot code JC23282, UPC number 3270096463 which were distributed to a national retail customer.”
