Welcome to the Holiday Season where one celebration ends just in time for another to begin. In case you missed the change from pumpkin to turkey at your local Wal-Mart, let me be the very first to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving. I know it may seem a little early, but one quick glance at the calendar will tell you we’ve only got three weeks till the food fest that is Thanksgiving. For those of us who plan on visiting family that live in other parts of the country getting those prized airline tickets has got to be a top priority. As you know Thanksgiving is a time when friends and family come together to say thanks to all who have enriched their lives and hold a special place in their hearts….and of course this includes pets! Thus today I thought it might be a good idea to go over some tips for those who plan on flying with their furry friends during the coming months.
- Always take your pet in for a physical before flying with them. Your pet may seem okay but as we all know flying can be very stressful and a passing glance from a vet will go miles in making you less nervous than you already will be.
- Don’t scrimp on the shipping! Forget cheap plastics and don’t you dare pick up one of those cardboard things. This holiday season if your pet is coming along spend the extra dough and let them ride is style and safety! Plus see if your airline will allow you to include them as carry on luggage so you won’t be separated.
- Avoid layovers. The more planes equal the more confusion equal the greater chances that your pet will wind up in Los Angeles instead of Louisiana.
I don’t have to be the one to tell you how stressful flying is, but we all need reminders every now and then so this is yours. If your holiday plans include taking fido for a four hour flight, plan a head and save you both some heartache.
